Softball Stops Wildcats home Winning Streak With 7-4 Win
May 10, 2007
TUCSON, Ariz. - In another wild tangle between traditional rivals at Hillenbrand Stadium, UCLA won its fourth straight game in Tucson, snapping Arizona's 16-game home winning streak with a 7-4 win. UCLA improves to 35-15 (11-8 Pac-10) with the win while Arizona falls to 38-11-1 (14-4-1 Pac-10) with the loss.
The Wildcats loaded the bases in the bottom of the first inning, but UCLA freshman starting pitcher Megan Langenfeld got a pop-up and fly-out to end the inning and the threat. The Bruins went down in order in the first two frames, and Arizona would bat around in the second, scoring two earned and two unearned runs to take a 4-0 lead.
In the top of the third, the Bruins answered. Julie Burney drew a one-out walk, followed by a hit from Tara Henry before Krista Colburn brought the Bruins to within one run as she put her sixth home run of the season over the fence just to the left field side of the batters eye.
The top of the fifth saw the Bruins put together an impressive two-out rally. It opened with consecutive two-out singles from Dodd and Legaspi and culminated with a three-run home run from Langenfeld, her first since an April 21 win at California, to help her own cause and give UCLA the 7-4 lead.
Langenfeld pitched a complete game for her 12th victory of the season. She struck out three batters and allowed just two earned runs on the day.
The Bruins return to action with a 7 pm game on Friday at Arizona State and close out the regular season with a 1 pm contest at ASU on Saturday. Saturday's game will be televised live by FSN Prime Ticket and FSN Arizona.
