WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - ARIZONA STATE junior outfielder/left-handed pitcher Matt Spencer has been named the Pacific-10 Conference Baseball Player of the Week and WASHINGTON STATE junior left-handed pitcher Jayson Miller has been named Pitcher of the Week for May 8-14, Commissioner Tom Hansen announced today.

Matt Spencer, of Morristown, Tenn., did it all for the Sun Devils, helping lead them to a huge weekend sweep of conference rival No. 21 UCLA. Spencer was 9-for-12 (.750) on the weekend, with a double, a triple, two home runs, seven RBI, six runs scored and two hit by pitches. He also made two pitching appearances and played stellar defense all weekend, making several highlight reel catches and throwing a runner out at home. Spencer started the weekend going 4-for-5 with three RBI and two runs scored as the Devils erased a 14-7 deficit to claim a 16-14 victory on Friday night. Spencer came up huge on Saturday, homering twice and recording the game-winning hit, a bases loaded walk-off single in the bottom of the ninth that completed another ASU comeback. Sunday his two hits helped ASU once again rally from behind, as he knocked in the tying run in the seventh inning, completing a seven-run comeback that ended with an 11-10 Sun Devil victory and the three-game sweep.

Miller, of Richland, Wash., picked up his fourth win of the season against No. 15 Oregon State. In his only appearance for the week, Miller went eight innings, allowing one run on four hits with five strikeouts, clinching the series for the Cougars. The Beavers hit .154 (4-26) against him and only twice had runners past second base and at one point, he retired 11 of 12 Beavers. For the season Miller is 4-2 with a 3.26 ERA.

The Player of the Week honor is the first of Spencer's career, while it is the 83rd such honor for Arizona State. The Pitcher of the Week honor is the first for Miller and marks the 29th selection all-time for Washington State.
