Cal Completes Sweep In 6-3 Win Over USC

BERKELEY, Calif. - David Cooper and Josh Satin had two RBI each Monday as the California Golden Bears completed the Pac-10 Conference series sweep in a 6-3 win over the USC Trojans at Evans Diamond. Craig Bennigson threw 6 2/3 innings for Cal (28-24, 11-10) and allowed two runs on just three hits while Matt Gorgen picked up his ninth save with 2 2/3 innings.

Cal is now 28-24 on the season and 11-10 in Pac-10 play while USC falls to 26-26 overall and tied for sixth place in the conference with Oregon State at 8-13.

Freshman third baseman Hector Rabago gave USC the early lead with an RBI double in the second, scoring Darren Gemoll from second base. Cal took the lead in the third with two runs on an RBI single from Satin and sacrifice fly from David Cooper.

Rich Gorman led off the Cal fifth with a double and later scored on Satin's sacrifice fly. After Satin's second RBI of the game, Cooper drilled his 12th homer of the season with a solo shot to right and the 4-1 lead for the Golden Bears. The Trojans added a run in the seventh on Matt Cusick's RBI single, but could not get closer as Cal added a run in the seventh and eighth innings.

USC travels to UC Santa Barbara for a nonconference game on Wednesday (May 23) for a 2 p.m. game before concluding the 2007 regular season with a Pac-10 home series against Stanford, Friday-Sunday (May 25-27). All four games will be broadcast live on with a live video webcast for the Stanford series.
