May 22, 2007
Athens, Ga. - Washington senior Alex Slovic earned an at-large selection to the NCAA Men's Tennis Singles Championships to be held this Wednesday, May 23 through Monday, May 28 at Dan Magill Tennis Complex in Athens, Georgia, hosted by the University of Georgia.
Slovic, originally an alternate for the NCAA Championships, learned Monday that he gained entry into the field of 64. He will face Illinois' Ryan Rowe, ranked 22nd in the latest ITA poll, in Wednesday's first round at 1:30 p.m. PT. The winner of that match will face the winner of USC's Kaes Van't Hof and Notre Dame's Stephen Bass on Thursday.
Slovic, who was named a first-team selection to the All-Pac-10 team last week, will be making his second-consecutive appearance in the NCAA Championships. He was upset last year in the first round.
Slovic is currently ranked 64th nationally. He played exclusively at No. 1 singles and doubles this season and posted a record of 21-11 in singles and 16-9 in doubles. Slovic is the all-time Husky leader in combined wins (180), doubles wins (83), and is fourth in singles victories (97).
