Softball Super Regional Games To Air On KIXI 880 AM
May 22, 2007
SEATTLE-- Due to broadcasting conflicts with the Seattle Storm and Husky baseball on KKNW 1150 AM, all Super Regional softball games between Washington and Alabama will be broadcast on KIXI 880 AM.
Sixth-seeded Washington will open the best-of-three series vs. 11th-seeded Alabama on Friday, May 25 at 3:30 p.m. at Husky Softball Stadium. Game two is slated for Saturday at noon, with the if-necessary game scheduled for 2:30 p.m. The winner will punch a ticket to the Women's College World Series in Oklahoma City, Okla., May 31-June 5.
Washington is playing in its 14th NCAA Tournament and third consecutive Super Regional. The Huskies have not hosted a Super Regional since the round was added to the NCAA format in 2005. Washington did host the Regional Tournament in 1996, 1998, 1999 and 2000, advancing to the Women's College World Series all four times.
Tickets can be purchased through the Husky Ticket Office at (206) 543-2200 or online at gohuskies.com. All-session reserved seats are $16. Single-session seats are $10 reserved, $7 general admission adult, $5 student/senior and $3 standing room only.
Washington went 3-1 at the Lincoln Regional last week, defeating Creighton 5-1 and Georgia 8-0 in five innings to advance to Sunday's Regional Championship. The Huskies lost an extra-inning heartbreaker to Georgia 2-1 in nine innings to force the if necessary game, which Washington won 1-0 with a game-winning RBI by sophomore Alicia Matthews in the bottom of the seventh inning.
Alabama won the Tuscaloosa Regional, batting back from a first round loss to Tennessee Tech to win the next four games, including victories over Florida State 6-3, California 13-1 in five innings, and two wins over TTU, 19-10 and 7-1, on Sunday. It is Alabama's third straight Super Regional appearance.
