Huskies Set To Compete In USA Volleyball Adult Open Championships
May 23, 2007
SEATTLE-- As a culmination of their spring training season, the University of Washington volleyball team will be traveling to Austin, Texas to participate in the 2007 USA Volleyball Adult Open Championships, May 26 through June 2. After practicing regularly since April 18th, the tournament will provide the team with an opportunity to compete against other teams and apply what has been learned over the last month while also allowing some of the younger players to obtain some valuable game experience.
The four days of competition will wrap-up the spring practice period. 'We are going to use this tournament to help answer specific questions, see where we are at this juncture and as a way to develop further our team,' said head coach Jim McLaughlin. 'We intend to play our freshmen extensively in order to give them some valuable experience playing in match conditions against strong competition. The four days of competition gives us a great opportunity to develop the team through a significant number of game repetitions as well as determine what areas will need the most attention come the fall. Both Stevie Mussie and Christal Morrison, will not participate in this event. Our other players will then get a lot of work and we will know better where we are as we head into the 2007 season.'
There are 12 teams competing in the women's division and it is expected to be a very competitive field that will include two teams from USA Volleyball. The team is leaving for Austin on May.
