The first four rowers in a varsity eight boat that has won every race this season were named to the 2007 Pacific-10 Women's Rowing All-Conference Team today. Junior captain Ligita Kaviere was selected for the second season in a row while freshman stroke Gabriela Varekova, sophomore starboard Magda Madziewicz and junior starboard Dunja Pejcic each made their first appearance on the All-Conference team.

Varekova was also selected as the Pac-10 Women's Rowing Conference Newcomer of the Year. Rowing from the stroke seat all season, Varekova's tempo has set a precedent for the dominant varsity eight boat. She is the first Trojan to receive this honor since its inception in 2000.

Director of rowing and head coach Zenon Babraj was also honored today as the Pac-10 Conference Women's Rowing Coach of the Year. This is the first such honor for Babraj as a Pac-10 Women's Rowing coach. From 1987-89, Babraj was selected Pac-10 Conference Men's Rowing Coach of the Year as he led the UCLA men's team to three consecutive conference championships.
