Stanford Pair Heads to FILA Junior World Team Trials

Colorado Springs, Colo. - Stanford freshmen Zack Giesen and Lucas Espericueta will compete in the FILA Junior World Team Trials tomorrow in Colorado Springs, Colo. The pair qualified for the trials at the FILA Junior National Championships last month, both placing in their respective weight classes.

Competition begins tomorrow at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs. Giesen, the 2006-07 Pac-10 Freshman of the Year, will compete at 84 kg, while Espericueta, who redshirted his rookie season on the Farm, will compete at 74 kg. Giesen placed seventh at Junior Nationals in Las Vegas in April, while Espericueta finished sixth.

The Stanford pair will be competing for a trip to the FILA Junior World Championships in Beijing, China, Aug. 21-26, as the winner of each weight class will qualify for the event.
