Johnson Wins Third 400m Hurdles Crown to Lead Bruin Men at West Regionals

Brandon Johnson led the Bruin men on Saturday at the NCAA West Region Championships in Eugene, OR as the senior won his third and final regional crown in the 400m hurdles. The Bruins placed fourth overall with 53.50 points and qualified six athletes automatically to the NCAA Championships during the two-day meet.
Johnson on running sub-50 seconds - 'The race felt like it was faster then that, but I think the wind slowed us down. I'm excited to run under 50 seconds, but I want to run faster.'
Johnson on winning his third regional crown - 'It's a relief because you always want to defend a title, but it's kind of bittersweet because I have three titles and I wish I had four.'
On the upcoming NCAA Championships - 'My goal is to make the finals. I don't really want to put any pressure on myself to win, I just want to get to the finals then run the best race I can. Win or not, I just want my final collegiate race to be a good one.'

110m Hurdles - Darius Reed punched his ticket to Sacramento and the NCAA Championships with a lifetime-best run in the hurdles as he finished third in a time of 13.81 (old best, 13.88). That time moves Reed into the NCAA top-20.
400m Hurdles - Brandon Johnson easily won the intermediate hurdles crown as he crossed the line in a season-best time o f 49.98 (old best, 50.03). That time keeps Johnson at the No. 6 spot in the country.
4x100m Relay - No entries.
High Jump - No entries.
Triple Jump - Michael Johnson finished eighth in heat two and 11th overall with a mark of 49-1.50.
Shot Put - John Caulfield automatically qualified for the NCAA Outdoor meet after finishing fifth with a throw of 60-4. Darius Savage was ninth with a mark of 57-7.50 and is eligible for an at-large bid. He currently ranks 24th in the country with a best of 59-3. Nick Robinson failed to get a mark as he fouled all three throws in the prelims.
