Frankiewicz Named to All-Academic Team

Berkeley - Sophomore Lauren Frankiewicz of the California softball team was chosen as a Pac-10 All-Academic Honorable Mention, as announced by league commissioner Tom Hansen on Wednesday. To be eligible for selection to the academic team, a student-athlete must have a minimum 3.0 overall grade-point average and either be a starter or significant contributor.
Frankiewicz finished her sophomore campaign with an 18-16 record with a 3.29 ERA and two shutouts this season. She also led the pitching staff with 200 strikeouts. She recorded a season-high 10 strikeouts for her sixth win vs. Eastern Illinois on Mar. 10 and recorded nine strikeouts and allowed just four hits for her ninth victory in Cal's 1-0 win over Liberty on Mar. 15. Frankiewicz tossed a three-hit complete game shutout in Cal's 3-0 win at Stanford on Apr. 5, and allowed just one run on five hits in Cal's 9-1 series finale win over the Cardinal on Apr. 7. She collected won No. 15 vs. Arizona State after allowing one run on six hits with nine strikeouts on Apr. 29.
Cal finished the 2007 season with a 34-32 record and a 22nd consecutive berth to the NCAA postseason. With the bid, Cal has the longest active postseason streak in the Pac-10 and the second-longest streak in the nation. According to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA), Cal boasted the fourth-best strength of schedule in the nation's No. 1-rated conference (RPI). With a squad that featured seven freshmen, the Bears also had eight wins against top 25 teams in 2007.
