COUGS TO COMPETE AT NCAA TRACK & FIELD CHAMPIONSHIPS: Washington State University will be represented by three women and nine men competing at the Men's 86th and Women's 26th Annual NCAA Div. I Outdoor Track & Field Championships June 6-9, at the A. G. Spanos Sports Complex on the Sacramento State campus...four days of competition will showcase action from 10 a.m. until 9 p.m. PT each night except Saturday when events end at noon...team scoring for all events is 10-8-6-5-4-3-2-1...results can be obtained at the NCAA website, www.ncaasports.com.

TV COVERAGE OF 2007 NCAA TRACK & FIELD CHAMPIONSHIPS: The 2007 NCAA Division I Men's and Women's Outdoor Track and Field Championships will feature 5 hours of live television coverage...CSTV will broadcast three hours of competition (5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Pacific Time) Friday, June 8 (and will be broadcast again June 9 at 11 p.m. and June 10 at 3 a.m. PT)...CBS will air 2 hours of live coverage (10 a.m. to noon Pacific Time) Saturday, June 9, the final day of the four-day collegiate championships...this is the most live coverage in the 87-year history of the NCAA Division I Track and Field...this is only the third time the women's portion of the meet will be televised live in its 25-year history.

WSU IN NATIONAL COLLEGIATE TRACK & FIELD RANKINGS: The Cougar women's team is ranked 17th in the United States Track & Field/Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) May 30 poll...WSU's women are also ranked 17th in the Trackwire.com Top 25 as of May 15...the Cougar men are unranked in both polls.

ABOUT THE COUGAR COACHES: Head coach Rick Sloan is in his 34th season with the Cougar track program; 13th year as a head coach, 12th year as mentor to the combined men's and women's program...he is joined by associate coach Debra Farwell, and assistant coaches Jason Drake (Head Coach Cross Country), Mark Macdonald, Ellannee Richardson and Matt McGee...volunteer coaches included former WSU All-American pole vaulter Tamara Diles, Bob Frey and Luan Weeks.

YEAR-END ACADEMIC HONORS COUGAR TRACK & FIELD: The WSU Senior Banquet was held May 4, 2007 and many track & field student-athletes were honored...receiving Excellence in Academics awards were Kaylee Gardner, Kayle Peterson, Kelly Ramirez, Ryan Scott and Drew Ulrick...Ramirez was also honored with the PROWL-TeamCare Award...Cougar Pride Salutes (top 12 upperclassmen) went to John Cassleman, Haley Paul and Ulrick...Student-Athlete Advisory Council (SAAC) Award went to Jaycee Robertson...additionally, Haley Paul was awarded the Harold and Jeanne Rounds Writing Award which is given to the top 1% of the top 10% of students who submit their Junior Writing Portfolios.

ARTHUR ASHE JR. SPORTS SCHOLAR AWARDS: Six WSU track and field women were honored by being selected Arthur Ashe Jr. Sports Scholars for women's track and field for the 2006-07 school year...sophomore hurdler Angelica Flynn (Tacoma) was named to the first team, sophomore distance runner Marisa Sandoval (Los Alamos, NM) was named to the second team, senior distance runner Kelly Ramirez (Duvall, Wash.) was named to the third team, sophomore intermediate hurdler Lorraine King (Fontana, Calif.) and senior sprinter Nicole McClendon (Granada Hills, Calif.) were named to the third team, and junior steeplechaser Meghan Leonard (Newberg, Ore.) was named honorable mention.

ALL-AMERICAN MISSING FROM NCAA MEET: WSU senior All-American pole vaulter, Tyson Byers, had a disappointing final outdoor season...reached a PR of 18-0 1/2i for third place at the 2007 NCAA Indoor Championships...outdoor season was fraught with problems...he was denied a chance to compete at Texas Relays by bad weather but cleared 17-3 1/2 at Mt. SAC...no height at both Pac-10 Championships and NCAA West Regionals meets.

USA OUTDOOR TRACK & FIELD CHAMPIONSHIPS: Several current and former WSU Cougar competitors are aiming toward competing at the AT&T USA Outdoor Track & Field Championships, June 20-24, at the Indiana University Michael A. Carroll Track & Soccer Stadium on the campus of IUPUI...this is the final stop of the Visa Championship Series, is also the qualifying meet for the 2007 IAAF World Outdoor Championships in Osaka, Japan...present and future Olympians will compete for national titles at a venue that is the home of four world records and considered one of the fastest tracks in America...both NBC and ESPN2 will broadcast the championships...additionally, the 2007 Finish Line USA Junior Outdoor Track & Field Championships will take place in conjunction with the elite event...a complete event schedule for the 2007 AT&T USA Outdoor Track & Field Championships and The Finish Line USA Junior Track & Field Championships may be found at the USA Track & Field website by clicking: http://www.usatf.org/events/2007/USAOutdoorTFChampionships/schedule.asp ...last year Diana Pickler took fifth place in the heptathlon in the senior meet.
