BERKELEY - The University of California is ranked No. 12 in the nation in the preseason football rankings of The Sporting News. The publication also rates junior DeSean Jackson as the top wide receiver in the nation and a preseason first-team All-American.

In addition to Jackson being rated No. 1 at receiver in the nation, junior Alex Mack is ranked as the No. 3 center in the country while junior Nate Longshore is tagged the No. 5 quarterback in the nation. Senior Craig Stevens is listed at No. 7 among tight ends.

The publication also ranks position units nationally with the Golden Bear receivers checking in at No. 3 and Cal's offensive backfield rated in the 'Five Others To Watch' category, just after the top five.

The Sporting News rated eight Golden Bear players as preseason All-Pac-10 selections.
