Zizzo Scores As U.S. Under-20s Defeat Canada, 4-1
June 3, 2007
UCLA sophomore Sal Zizzo scored his first goal of the year with the U.S. Under-20 National Team, helping the team defeat Canada's U-20 squad, 4-1, in a Sunday afternoon friendly in Ottawa, ON.
With the U.S. up 2-1 in the second half, Zizzo gave his team a comfortable lead on an 82nd minute goal, scoring on a second-chance effort after Canadian goalkeeper Asmir Begovic blocked his initial attempt. The deflection went straight to Zizzo, who buried it in the back of the net for his first goal of the year with the U-20s.
Zizzo started and played all 90 minutes in midfield, earning his eighth cap with the U-20s. Classmate Tony Beltran also started and played the entire match in defense and earned his ninth U-20 cap.
The U.S. will face Canada again on Wednesday, June 6 in Kingston, ON at 4 pm PT.
