UCLA's Joe Mallia Named Head Coach at LMU

June 4, 2007

LOS ANGELES - UCLA women's soccer assistant Joe Mallia was named the new head coach at nearby Loyola Marymount University on Monday. Mallia, who was an assistant head coach at UCLA the past two seasons, replaces LMU's Greg Murphy, who left in May to become the associate head coach at Santa Clara.

'I am so happy for Joe and his family and publicly want to thank him for his invaluable contributions to UCLA soccer,' said UCLA head coach Jillian Ellis. 'He is an amazing coach and friend and I am truly excited he will still be in the Southern California area. LMU is fortunate to have Joe become their next coach and everyone here at UCLA wishes him the very best.'

Mallia arrived at UCLA in 2005 after serving the previous seven years as head coach at Loyola College in Baltimore, Md. During his time at UCLA, the Bruins advanced to two College Cups, reaching the NCAA Final in 2005 and the semifinals in 2006.
