June 5, 2007

LOS ANGELES - USC Director of Track and Field Ron Allice was named the West Region Men's Coach of the Year today (June 5) by the United States Track and Field/Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).

In his 13th season at the helm of the USC track and field program, Allice guided the men's team to its third consectuive NCAA West Regional Championship and to a third-place finish at the Pac-10 Championships, finishing four points behind Oregon and one behind Arizona State in the closest conference title in history. For Allice, it is his second consecutive season earning the Men's West Region Coach of the Year honors by the USTFCCCA.

Allice's men's team is currently ranked No. 3 by the USTFCCCA as they begin action at the NCAA Championships tomorrow (June 6) in Sacramento, Calif. The women's team is currently ranked No. 10 in the country. The Trojans have 14 men and 10 women qualified for competition at the NCAA Championships.

Allice has guided the men's team to top 10 finishes at the NCAA Championships in nine of his first 12 seasons. The Trojan men's and women's teams have both finished in the top 10 in the country in each of the last two seasons, one of just two college programs (Texas the other) to accomplish that feat.

Earlier in the week, the USTFCCCA named the Trojans' Tina Fernandes as West Region Women's Sprint Coach of the Year and Dan Lange as West Region Men's Throws Coach of the Year.

The NCAA Track and Field Championships will run June 6-9 at Alex G. Spanos Sports Complex in Sacramento. CSTV will televise the action from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on June 8 and CBS-TV will televise the finals on June 9 from 10 a.m. to noon.
