USC's Allison Jaskowiak Awarded Fifth Year Of Eligibility
June 5, 2007
USC guard/forward Allison Jaskowiak has been awarded a fifth year of eligibility by the NCAA, allowing her to return for a final season with the USC women's basketball team in 2007-08. A native of Chesterfield, Miss., Jaskowiak has been a leader for the Women of Troy on and off the court, and is considered a valuable member of the Trojan roster. After a 2003-04 freshman year in which she had a limited role in the season's action, Jaskowiak saw increased playing time as a sophomore under new head coach Mark Trakh and worked her way into the starting lineup. She now continues her Trojan playing career for a final season while pursuing a graduate degree at USC.
'We are so pleased and thrilled that we have a player of Allison's caliber returning,' Trakh said. 'We're excited that she's been granted a fifth year by the NCAA. She plays very hard and is one of the best defenders in the conference. Her leadership skills also are invaluable. She's an outstanding student and citizen and an outstanding representative of our community.'
Jaskowiak served as a team captain for the 2006-07 women's basketball team. Standing out as a defensive force for the Women of Troy, she also has hit 25 3-pointers and grabbed 223 rebounds as she enters the 2007-08 season. Jaskowiak played injured to help guide the team to back-to-back appearances in the NCAA Tournament in 2005 and 2006 and made clutch baskets in important victories over UCLA. After the 2006-07 season, she made the Pac-10 All-Academic Second Team for the second straight year, standing out as the first basketball Trojan to receive back-to-back first or second team honors since 1992. In May, she finished her bachelor's degree in English literature and language and a minor in business and will enter graduate school in the fall.
Jaskowiak played only six minutes and encountered medical issues as a true freshman under then-head coach Chris Gobrecht, and has been granted a 'season of eligibility waiver' for that 2003-04 season from the NCAA. As a sophomore under Trakh, a Jaskowiak saw increased playing time, and eventually worked her way into a full-time starting role during her junior and senior seasons.
