O'Toole Survives Marathon Day at USWAPL

June 21, 2007

UCLA junior Ryann O'Toole survived a marathon day of golf Thursday to advance to the quarterfinals of the 31st U.S. Women's Amateur Publinks Championship at Kearney Hill Golf Links in Lexington, KY.

O'Toole's teammates -- defending USWAPL champion Tiffany Joh and incoming freshman Glory Yang -- were not so fortunate.

O'Toole played 20 holes in her morning match before dispatching Mari Chun with a birdie on the par 3 second hole. In her afternoon match, she defeated Ha-Na Jang of Korea, 3 & 2 to earn a berth in the quarterfinals. She advanced to the same point last year. Friday, she meets Wonjoo Choi of Korea at 8:10 a.m. EDT.

Joh beat Aimee Neff, 2 &1 in her morning match, but fell 4 & 3 to Tonya Choate in the afternoon. Choate had beaten xx in the morning round.

Yang lost 1-up to Stephany Fleet in the second round. Fleet squared the match with a par at the fifth hole and never trailed after that point.

Friday will be another 36-hole day for the winners with Saturday's final also going two rounds.
