Incoming Freshmen Have Banner Day at USATF Junior National Championships

Incoming freshmen and high school record holders Tori Anthony (pole vault) and Ke'Nyia Richardson (triple jump) both had banner days on Friday at the USATF Junior National Championships in Indianapolis, IN as each won their respective events to earn spots on Team USA for the PanAm Games.
Anthony won the vault with a mark of 13-3.50, while Richardson won the triple jump with a mark of 44-2.50. Both will head to Sao Paolo, Brazil for the PanAm Junior Games next month.
It was the second consecutive competition for Richardson as she jumped in the senior section of the meet on Thursday evening, finishing sixth with a mark of 44-4. Anthony is entered in the senior section of the vault which takes place on Sunday.
Also in the junior section of the meet, freshman Tara Ross finished 10th overall in the javelin with a throw of 132-6.
Former and current Bruins were in action on Friday in the senior section of the meet as Suzy Powell highlighted the alumni with her win in the discus. Powell's mark of 198-11 bested the competition, giving her a spot on the World Championship team. She currently holds the American record in the discus (222-0).
In the semifinal rounds of the 400m, Monique Henderson ran the fifth-fastest time of the day (50.97, 3rd in heat two) to advance to Saturday's final.
Three former Bruin women were busy in the 100m hurdles, as all three advanced to Saturday's semifinal. Michelle Perry (12.92) led the way with the second-fastest time of the day, while Dawn Harper (13.10, 6th) and Joanna Hayes (13.28, 10th) rounded out the Bruin trio.
In the 400m hurdles, a former and current NCAA champion advanced to the semifinal rounds as alumna Sheena Johnson led the way. Johnson posted the third-fastest time (56.02) as she won heat three. Sophomore Nicole Leach was just behind Johnson with the fourth-best time (56.11) to finish second in heat two.
