UW Golfers To Compete In WSGA Men's Amateur This Week

SEATTLE - Six members of the Washington men's golf team, as well as coaches Matt Thurmond and Jon Reehoorn, will compete in this week's WSGA Men's Amateur Championship to be held at Gold Mountain Golf Club in Bremerton, Wash., June 26-29.

The Husky contingent will be led by senior-to-be Zach Bixler who is the defending WSGA Men's Amateur champion. Bixler was also the WSGA Amateur runner-up in 2005. Joining him in this week's tournament will be fellow UW teammates Joel Dahmen, Kellen Eakin, Chris Killmer, Nick Taylor, Darren Wallace and John Wise.

Former Husky Derek Berg, a four-year letterwinner from 2000-03, will also compete in the event.

Gold Mountain Golf Club will serve as the site of two Washington men's tournaments in the coming year - the annual Husky Invitational (Oct. 1-2) and the 2008 NCAA West Regional (May 17-19), which UW will host.
