Dahmen Shares Early Lead At Washington State Men's Amateur

BREMERTON, Wash. - Washington men's golfer Joel Dahmen shares an early lead after the first round of the Washington State Men's Amateur at Gold Mountain Golf Club, carding a 2-under 70 on Tuesday.

Heading into today's second round, Dahmen (Clarkston, Wash.) sits atop the leaderboard with Dan Whitaker of Cle Elum.

Dahmen's UW teammate, Zach Bixler (Richland, Wash.), shot an even-par 72 in the opening round and is tied for sixth with former Husky Derek Berg (Duvall, Wash.) and Zack Shriver (Marysville, Wash.). Bixler won the 2006 Washington State Men's Amateur and was the runner-up in 2005.

The other current Huskies competing in the tournament are Darren Wallace (2-over 74, tied for 13th), Nick Taylor (3-over 75, tied for 17th), assistant coach Jon Reehoorn (3-over 75, tied for 17th), head coach Matt Thurmond (4-over 76, tied for 23rd), John Wise (5-over 77, tied for 31st) and Kellen Eakin (11-over 83, tied for 104th
