Applications Still Available For UCLA Girls Basketball Summer Camps

June 28, 2007

Head coach Kathy Olivier and the UCLA women's basketball team will hold summer camps for girls on the UCLA campus in July. Applications are still being accepted for the two remaining camps - Day Camp (July 10-13) and Overnight Camp (July 25-28).

The UCLA Girls Basketball Camp is designed to provide a rewarding and enjoyable basketball experience for campers of all ability levels. The camp staff features UCLA coaches, as well as current and former UCLA players. Camp activities include instruction in the fundamentals of basketball, advanced training techniques, as well as individual and team competition. The philosophy of the camp is to make campers better all-around basketball players. Staff will help players develop their basketball skills in an atmosphere of fun and learning. All campers are grouped according to age and ability. Each camper will receive a camp t-shirt and certificate of completion.

The Day Camp focuses on teaching the fundamental skills and introducing basic game strategy. This is an outstanding camp for those just learning the game and for those already playing on teams. This camp is open to girls ages 6-12 and runs from 9 am-3 pm.

The Overnight Camp is designed for players who are becoming serious about basketball and developing their skills, both individually and within a team environment. Sessions offer an intense, specialized basketball instruction with an emphasis on fundamentals. This camp is open to girls ages 9-18.

The camps are held at UCLA's legendary Pauley Pavilion, with some sessions also held at the Student Activities Center. Overnight campers are housed in residence halls, and meals are served in the dining halls.

'Our camps offer a great opportunity for players to be around and learn from the UCLA women's basketball team and to play in a legendary venue arena like Pauley Pavilion on a beautiful campus,' said Olivier. 'We are really looking forward to the next two camps in July.'

UCLA's first girls basketball camp of the summer was a big success, with close to 50 club and high school basketball teams from all over the West in attendance last week.

'Last week's team camp was truly special because there were so many girls at different levels showing such exuberance and enthusiasm for the game of basketball,' said Olivier. 'In addition, our staff put forth amazing positive energy, which made it a memorable experience for our campers. A lot of that had to do with how well-organized and smoothly the camp went, and that is thanks to the team camp director Kari Duperron.'
