Current and Former Huskies To Compete At Next Week's Sahalee Players Championship
June 29, 2007
SEATTLE - Current and former Washington men's golfers are on tap to compete in next week's Sahalee Players Championship to be held at Sahalee Country Club in Sammamish, Wash., July 4-6.
Leading the current group of Huskies will be senior-to-be Zach Bixler who is coming off an eighth place finish at the Washington State Men's Amateur that wrapped up Friday. Bixler has finished in the top-20 of the last two Sahalee Players Championships.
Other current Huskies slated to take part in the event are Chris Killmer and John Wise. Like Bixler, Wise also competed in the WSGA Men's Amateur. Both Killmer and Wise were individual medalists for UW last season. Wise won the 2006 Opus NW Husky Invitational and Killmer won the 2007 Washington National Winter Championships.
The former Huskies set to tee off July 4 are very recent graduates and All-America honorees Alex Prugh and Erik Olson. Both golfers just finished standout careers in purple and gold. Prugh, whose latest outing came at the U.S. Open, led the field through the first three rounds of last year's Sahalee Players Championship but ended up finishing 15th. Olson tied for 10th at the 2006 event and placed 11th in 2005.
The third former UW golfer to play in next week's field will be Derek Berg who is coming off a third place finish at the Washington State Men's Amateur. Berg shared medalist honors at the 2006 Sahalee Players Championship.
