Barboza and US Finish Fourth at Pan Am Cup

Colima, Mexico - Cardinal outside hitter Cynthia Barboza and the US Women's National Volleyball Team finished fourth yesterday at the Pan American Cup in Colima, Mexico.
After going undefeated in pool play, the US dropped its semifinal match to Brazil on Thursday, 25-15, 25-15, 25-18. Barboza started at outside hitter for the fifth match of the tournament and was second on the team with five points, an ace and four kills.
Yesterday, the Cardinal fell in the third place match, 25-19, 26-28, 25-18, 28-26, to the Dominican Republic to finish fourth for the event. Barboza once again started at outside hitter and reached 10 points all on kills with just one attack error on 26 swings.
Despite the two losses to close out the Pan American Cup, the Americans qualified for the 2008 FIVB World Grand Prix, one of the goals for the team at the tournament. Based on the final standings of the Pan American Cup, the top three teams from NORCECA (North, Central America and Caribbean Volleyball Federation) and the top team from the CSV (South American Confederation) qualify for the 2008 FIVB World Grand Prix. Along with Team USA, Cuba, Brazil and Dominican Republic have earned spots in the 2008 World Grand Prix.
