Myers Signs with Chivas USA of MLS
July 3, 2007
BERKELEY - Former California goalkeeper Justin Myers signed a temporary contract with Chivas USA of Major League Soccer, the professional club announced last Friday. Myers will serve as the backup to Preston Burpo for Chivas, which needed depth in the nets with regular goalie Brad Guzan joining the U.S. national team for the Copa America in Venezuela.
Myers' signing means that Cal currently has 12 former players in the pro ranks, with seven in MLS.
The 6-2, 195-pound keeper recorded a 0.87 goals-against average in 15 starts for the Golden Bears in 2006. Myers, a product of San Diego and Torrey Pines High School, also collected six shutouts and a record of 11-4-0 last fall.
