2007 Santa Clara International Invitational Wrap-Up

Santa Clara, Calif. - Julia Smit's victory in the 400 individual medley highlighted the performances of Stanford affiliates at the long-course meters 2007 Santa Clara International Invitational that took place at the Santa Clara Swim Club from June 28 - July 1. Smit recorded a time of 4:40.33 to win the event. She also finished second in the 200 individual medley (2:14.04), third in the 200 back (2:12.83) and ninth in the 400 free (4:17.98).
Several other Stanford affiliates competed in the meet, including five others that were `A' finalists in individual events. Tara Kirk's second-place showings in both the 100 (1:07.35) and 200 (2:26.64) breast events were the next best finishes by a Stanford affiliate, while Elaine Breeden (200 fly, 2:11.44) and Brooke Bishop (26.47) turned in third-place efforts. Breeden (59.63) and Dana Kirk (1:00.50) captured fourth and fifth in the 100 fly, respectively, with Breeden adding an eighth place showing in the 50 free. Kirk (200 fly, 2:15.50) and Lauren Thies (200 free, 2:03.04) added a pair of ninth place showings.
Stanford also had a fourth-place finish in the 400 free relay (3:50.31) with a foursome of Whitney Spence, Smit, Breeden and Bishop.
