LOS ANGELES - The UCLA baseball team's 2008 schedule features 23 games against teams which competed in the 2007 NCAA Tournament, head coach John Savage announced Thursday. The Bruins will open their 2008 season with a three-game series at Jackie Robinson Stadium against Oklahoma beginning Friday, Feb. 22.

UCLA's 56-game schedule includes 32 games at Jackie Robinson Stadium and 24 road contests. The Bruins will play 11 games against four of the eight teams which advanced to the 2007 College World Series (Arizona State, Cal State Fullerton, defending national champion Oregon State and UC Irvine).

'We are very excited about our upcoming season,' head coach John Savage said. 'We have built some great momentum over the last several years, and we look forward to a very challenging schedule in 2008.'

UCLA's 2007 schedule was rated the third-most challenging schedule by Boyd's World, a national strength-of-schedule ranking service. The Bruins' 2006 schedule was tabbed the most difficult in the nation by Boyd's World.

The Bruins will face crosstown rival USC at a state-of-the-art facility built by Major League Baseball in Compton, Calif., on Saturday, March 1, in a non-conference affair. UCLA plays its first three-game road series two weeks later at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo (March 13-15).

UCLA will play three games in two days against Long Beach State (March 21-22), including a Saturday doubleheader at Blair Field.

The Bruins open Pac-10 play at Arizona with a three-game series beginning Friday, March 28. UCLA returns home the following week to host San Diego State on a Tuesday before opening a three-game series at Jackie Robinson Stadium against USC (April 4-6).

Other midseason series include three games at home against UC Riverside (April 11-13) and Stanford (April 18-20) and a three-game series at Washington (April 25-27). The Bruins will play 12 of their 17 games in April at home.

Eight of UCLA's final 11 contests will take place on the road. The Bruins will play a three-game series at Oregon State (May 9-11), three final home games against Washington State (May 16-18) and the season's final three contests at California (May 23-25).

UCLA will face teams from seven conferences, including the Pac-10. The 2008 schedule features seven Big West teams (Cal Poly, Cal State Fullerton, Cal State Northridge, Long Beach State, UC Irvine, UC Riverside and UC Santa Barbara) and three West Coast Conference squads (Pepperdine and St. Mary's).

The Bruins will also play two teams from the Mountain West Conference (San Diego State and UNLV), one team from the Big-XII Conference (Oklahoma), one Mid-East Athletic Conference team (Bethune-Cookman) and one Southwestern Athletic Conference opponent (Southern).

UCLA looks to advance to the NCAA Tournament for the third consecutive season and aspires to compete in the College World Series for the first time since 1997. The Bruins' 2007 campaign ended in the NCAA Super Regionals at Cal State Fullerton.
