UCLA To Face Davidson College in 14th Annual John R. Wooden Classic
July 16, 2007
ANAHEIM, Calif. - Long time John Wooden Classic participant UCLA will face Davidson College in the 14th annual John R. Wooden Classic on December 8, 2007 at Honda Center. The last time these two teams took to the court was in 1975 when UCLA beat Davidson 91-64 at Pauley Pavilion, the same season Coach Wooden retired.
This will be UCLA's fifth consecutive appearance in the Wooden Classic (11th overall), with a record of 7-3 in prior contests. Last year the Bruins defeated Texas A&M, 65-62 in the Wooden Classic. The defending back-to-back regular season Pac-10 champions finished the 2006-07 season with an overall record of 30-6. For the second year in a row, the Bruins advanced to the Final Four, falling just short of winning the National Championship.
Davidson, ranked No. 23 in the preseason, will make its first appearance in the Wooden Classic. The Wildcats are returning 11 lettermen and all five starters from last year's club that won its second straight Southern Conference Tournament. Davidson has appeared in two consecutive NCAA Tournaments and nine overall. The team posted its third straight 20-win season last year, breaking a school record with 29 wins.
The lineup for the second game will be announced as the information becomes available.
