Lawrie Leads Team Canada To Bronze Medal at KFC World Cup

July 17, 2007

OKLAHOMA CITY - Washington ace Danielle Lawrie tossed a complete game, five-hitter vs. China Monday to lead the Canadian National Team to the 8-2 win and third place finish at the KFC World Cup of Softball III in Oklahoma City, Okla.

Lawrie threw two shutout innings before Canada scored seven-runs in the third inning to eventually roll to the 8-2 victory. Lawrie held China to just five hits and struck out six en route to her second win of the tournament. She picked up the 5-1 win over China earlier in the week after holding the Chinese to one run on four hits, while fanning nine.

Canada earned its second straight bronze medal at the event, which has quickly developed into one of the top International Softball events in only its third year of existence. Canada had previously finished in fifth place in the inaugural World Cup of Softball.

Lawrie and Team Canada return to action when they compete in the 2007 Pan American Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, July 23-28. Canada opens play vs. the United States and Puerto Rico on July 23.
