Bruin Divers Head to Senior Zone D Championships This Weekend
July 18, 2007
All-American divers Marisa Samaniego and Tess Schofield will highlight a Bruin foursome competing this weekend at the Senior Zone D Championships beginning on Friday at the McDonald Swim Stadium on the campus of USC. Also joining the All-American duo are juniors Brittany Hill and Shannon Pirozzi.
The women's one meter event (and men's three meter) will take place simultaneously on Friday, July 20, beginning at 11 am. The women's three meter (men's one meter) will occur Saturday July 21, while the women and men's platform will run together on Sunday, July 22.
Prelims will be one list of optionals followed by a cut to the top twelve divers. Those athletes will do another list of optionals to determine final placing at the event. The dive lists will not be added together, but each list will determine place finish for each segment of the meet.
The top three divers in the one meter events and the top five divers in the three meter and platform event finals will qualify for the Kaiser Permanente U.S. Diving National Championships taking place July 31-August 5 at Stanford University.
Samaniego and Schofield are prequalified for the three meter and platform events, respectively, after their top twelve finishes at April's Indoor National Championships. Hill and Pirozzi will compete on both springboard events this weekend.
