July 19, 2007
She may not wear it on the first day of practice, but Heather Oliver's silver-medal experience will most certainly be a welcome addition to the USC women's basketball roster this coming season. A member of the Australian Under-21 Women's National Team, Trojan newcomer Heather 'Ollie' Oliver is one of five new additions to the Women of Troy for 2007-08. This summer, Oliver has been competing with the Australian Sapphires, helping the squad claim a silver medal at the recent FIBA U-21 World Championships in Moscow, Russia.
A 5-10 guard, Oliver competed in all eight games at worlds, where the Sapphires' only losses were to the USA. Oliver got a bit of a taste of her USC career to come, as she faced off against a future Pac-10 opponent, Candice Wiggins - Stanford guard competing for the United States. Oliver accumulated 18 points in Australia's silver-medal run, dishing up nine assists and pulling down eight rebounds. She was 2-for-2 from the floor in the silver-medal game.
'Ollie is a great shooter and we're looking forward to her addition to the backcourt here at USC,' Trakh said. 'She has gotten great experience playing for her country, and we're so proud of her and her accomplishments this summer in Russia.'
