West Nott Joins USC As Women's Tennis Assistant Coach

July 19, 2007

USC women's tennis head coach Richard Gallien has added a new assistant coach to his staff, as West Nott becomes the Trojans' assistant. Nott comes to Troy after serving as a volunteer assistant with the Washington men's program following a successful collegiate playing career at Georgia Tech. A citizen of the Marshall Islands, Nott also is active in international competition for the Oceanic Tennis Federation teams, most recently helping Pacific Oceana beat Pakistan in Davis Cup action in Samoa.

Nott replaces former USC assistant Howard Joffe, who has moved into a head coaching position at Miami-Ohio.

'West is a great addition for us,' Gallien said. 'He brings solid experience and knowledge of the game, as well as excellent enthusiasm. I think the girls will respond well to him, as he definitely has a lot to teach and a great personality to fit in with the team.'

Nott had a hand in helping Washington men reach the NCAA Sweet Sixteen in 2006. As a player, Nott followed up a year at Florida with three successful seasons at Georgia Tech, where he ranks fifth all-time in career wins before completing his collegiate career and graduating with a degree in management. In 1998, he won the U.S. National Indoor Boys 16 Championship while attending Naples High School in Naples, Fla.

Nott joins a USC women's program that has made 12 straight appearances in the NCAA Tournament, most recently reaching the 2007 NCAA Round of 16 to finish with a 19-5 overall record.
