Grant Wins Second Silver, Ash Advances To Finals At 2007 Pan American Games

The Pan American Games continued in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil this morning. Stanford swimmer Andy Grant continued his medal winning ways, while Chris Ash advanced to the finals in his race.

Grant earned his second silver medal of the games by helping the Unites States to a second place finish in the 400 meter freestyle relay. The team recorded an overall time of 3:16.66, and was edged out of the top spot by Brazil who recorded a time of 3:15.90. Grant recorded the third fastest 100 meter split of 48.65, while teammate Ricky Berens posted the fastest 100 meters with a time of 48.05.

Chris Ash advanced to the 200 meter breaststroke finals at the Pan American Games.

Ash claimed a second place finish in heat one of the 200 meter breaststroke semifinals with his time of 2:17. His time was good enough for sixth place and a trip to the finals once all the heats were combined. Scott Spann of the U.S. heads into the finals with the top time of 2:17.17.
