Jamie Schroeder Wins Bronze at Pan Am Games
July 20, 2007
Jamie Schroeder ('05) won a bronze medal today at the 2007 Pan American Games at the Lagoa Rowing Center in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Schroeder rowed two-seat in the U.S. men's quadruple sculls, along with teammates Francis Cuddy (University of New Hampshire), Deaglan McEachern (Cal-Berkeley), and Warren Anderson (Loyola Marymount). The American quad finished 6.05 seconds behind the winners from Cuba. The U.S. boat took over the third spot during the second quarter of the race and maintained that position the rest of the way down the course. Cuba, which sat in second place for the first 1,000 meters, passed Argentina in the second half of the race to win the gold medal in a 6:43.60. Argentina held on to win the silver medal, finishing in a 6:47.74.
Schroeder raced at the Henley Royal Regatta in the Diamond Sculls earlier this month after winning the U.S. National Championships. He represented the U.S. at the 2004 Olympic Games in the men's four and in the 2006 World Championships as the American single sculler. He is an Under-23 World Champion in the men's eight and rowed to victory for Oxford in the legendary Oxford-Cambridge Boat Race last year.
Schroeder's bronze in the quadruple sculls was one of four medals today for the United States. The men's eight won gold, the women's quadruple sculls won silver, and the lightweight men's four won silver, giving the U.S. a total of 10 medals for the regatta.
