Cheney Lifts U.S. Past Canada at 2007 Pan American Games

Rio de Janeiro, Brazil - UCLA players accounted for all three goals in the U.S. vs. Canada match on Monday at the Pan American Games, as UCLA sophomore Lauren Cheney scored twice for Team USA, while Kara Lang netted one for Canada in a 2-1 U.S. semifinal victory. The U.S. will face Brazil in the gold medal match on Thursday.

Cheney's goals came in the 18th and 77th minutes, while Lang put Canada on the board with just two minutes remaining in regulation (88th). Cheney and sophomore Lauren Wilmoth started for Team USA. Incoming freshmen Kylie Wright and Lauren Barnes entered the game as substitutes.

UCLA's Jillian Ellis is the head coach of the U.S. Under-20 squad in Rio. Canada was playing with its full women's national team.
