Maric to Compete at World University Games

BERKELEY - California thrower Martin Maric, a transfer from Georgia, will represent Croatia in the discus and javelin events at the World University Games Aug. 9-14 in Bangkok Thailand. The first round of the javelin event begins on Aug. 9, while the first round of the discus begins on Aug. 10.
Maric will have sophomore eligibility during the 2008 indoor season and will be a junior during the 2008 outdoor season at Cal.
In 2006, as a sophomore Bulldog, Maric earned All-America honors after taking sixth place in the javelin with a throw of 228-2 at the NCAA Outdoor Championships. He recorded a lifetime-best mark of 237-3 in the javelin at the NCAA East Regional that same year.
In the discus, Maric took second place with a lifetime-best toss of 190-1 at the NCAA East Regional. Maric was also a member of the 2006 SEC Academic Honor Roll.
He competed at the 2005 and 2006 outdoor NCAAs in the discus.
Maric won both the javelin and discus at the 2005 Croatian National Championships. Before going to Georgia, he took second in the discus at the 2003 European Junior Championships and was a runner-up in the javelin and third in the discus at the 2004 Croatian Championships. Maric also placed 22nd in the discus at the 2002 World Junior Championships and 13th in the discus at the 2001 World Youth Championships.
