Gentry Set for Pan Am Games

Rio De Janeiro, Brazil - Matt Gentry, Stanford's only NCAA Champion and current Volunteer Assistant Coach, will compete in the Pan Am Games this week in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil. Gentry, a dual citizen of the US and Canada, will be competing for Canada in Freestyle at 74 kg.
The wrestling portion of the Pan Am Games begins today, with Freestyle competition starting on Friday. The gold medal match in 74 kg Freestyle is scheduled for Saturday at 6:30 pm local time. All matches will be held at the Riocentro Complex in Rio de Janeiro.
Gentry won the 157-pound NCAA title for Stanford in 2004 and has spent the past two years competing internationally. He won his second consecutive Canadian Senior National Championship in March to qualify for this week's Games and now sits atop the Olympic Qualifying ladder. He also captured the title in the 2007 Canada Cup and will compete at the Senior World Championships in September.
