Husky Football Travels To League Media Day

SEATTLE - A sure sign that football season is nearly here is the annual Pacific-10 Conference media day that will take place Thursday at the Sheraton Gateway in Los Angeles.

Head coach Tyrone Willingham and senior defensive end Greyson Gunheim will represent the Washington football program at the event, which is attended by dozens of West Coast and national media representatives who cover college football.

Following an introduction by the league's public relations director, Jim Muldoon, commissioner Tom Hansen will provide a welcome greeting to open the morning's group interview sessions. Each coach and player will conduct a 15-minute question and answer session that will be streamed live via the Internet on

Following its group session, each coach and player will conduct a number of one-on-one radio and television interviews in various locations throughout the hotel's meeting room and ballroom areas. Washington's flagship radio station, 950 KJR AM in Seattle, has plans to cover the event with live and taped interviews throughout the day.

Nine of the 10 head coaches in the league will be present. Oregon State coach Mike Riley will not be at media day in order to attend the funeral of OSU football coordinator of support services Jim Gilstrap, who passed away last week from medical complications.

Players representing the 10 league schools include Gunheim, cornerback Antoine Cason from Arizona, center Mike Pollak from Arizona State, receiver DeSean Jackson from California, tailback Jonathan Stewart from Oregon, running back Yvenson Bernard from Oregon State, quarterback T.C. Ostrander from Stanford, defensive end Bruce Davis from UCLA, quarterback John David Booty from USC and quarterback Alex Brink from Washington State.

Washington opens fall camp with its first practice on Sunday, August 5. The program's annual Picture Day, open to the public, will take place on Saturday, August 11 at 1:30 p.m. on the turf in Husky Stadium. The Kickoff Luncheon will take place on Monday, August 27 in Dempsey Indoor.

The Huskies open the season on Friday, August 31 at Syracuse in a nationally-televised (ESPN) contest beginning at 5 p.m. (Pacific). UW opens is tough seven-game home schedule on Sept. 8 against Boise State.
