Low Scores 14 in USA's 84-58 Victory over Virgin Islands

RIO DE JANEIRO, Brazil - Washington State University's Derrick Low scored 14 points and his teammate Kyle Weaver added four as the United States defeated the U.S. Virgin Islands, 84-58, in a 5-8 Classification Game of the men's basketball competition at the Pan American Games, Saturday.
The Americans move on to face Panama (2-2) for fifth place, Sunday at 9:30 a.m. PDT. The USA fell to Panama, 75-67, Thursday, in Group B play.
Once again the USA (2-2) was led by D.J. White with a game-high 22 points. Low had a game second-best with 14 points, marking the second game in a row the starting duo led the United States in scoring. White compiled a double-double, adding a game-high 13 rebounds.
Four Americans scored in double-digits, as Roy Hibbert and Shane Foster added 11 and 10 points, respectively.
After sitting out Friday's game, Weaver came off the bench for four points, a rebound and two assists in just over six minutes of action.
Frank Elegar led the Virgin Islands (1-3) with 10 points and four rebounds. Kitwana Rhymer added eight points on 4-for-6 shooting from the field.
The United States, which outrebounded its opponent, 48-35, had a 19-4 advantage on second-chance points and outscored the Virgin Islands, 44-29, in the paint.
After overcoming an early 5-0 deficit, the Americans took a 10-point, 38-28, lead into halftime. The United States outscored the Virgin Islands, 46-30, in the second stanza as it went on for the 84-58 win.
