UCLA Ranked No. 1 In College Soccer News Pre-Season Poll

July 30, 2007

The UCLA men's soccer team has been tabbed as the pre-season No. 1 by College Soccer News.

The Bruins return eight starters from last year's national finalist squad, including leading scorer and Soccer America Freshman of the Year David Estrada and No. 2-leading goal scorer Jason Leopoldo. Other returning starters are U.S. Under-20 National Team member Tony Beltran; Pan Am Games team members Greg Folk and Michael Stephens; All-Far West honoree Mike Zaher; All-Freshman honoree Kyle Nakazawa; and All-Pac-10 honoree Brad Rusin. In addition, the Bruins return the services of U.S. Under-20 National Team goalkeeper Brian Perk and standout players Brandon Owens and Maxwell Griffin, who missed most, if not all, of the 2006 season due to injury.

UCLA will play 10 games against Top 30 teams, including three straight to open the season on the road (No. 11 Notre Dame at Indiana on Aug. 31, No. 8 Indiana on Sept. 2, and No. 21 Creighton on Sept. 8).
