Football Ticket Sales Moving Briskly

July 31, 2007

SEATTLE - With the most attractive home football schedule in the country getting underway in just over a month, University of Washington athletic ticket office staffers suspected they would experience strong demand when single game tickets were made available for sale on Monday.

They couldn't have been more accurate.

Sales were brisk on the first day of sales with the Husky Ticket Office filling orders for 11,500 total tickets by the time it closed for the day. Roughly 45 percent of the orders placed were for tickets to see the highly-anticipated Husky contest against Ohio State. Demand for the Sept. 8 season-opener against Boise State ran a close second.

'Certainly, as we expected, it was a busy day,' said David Gravenkemper, UW's director of ticket sales and customer service. 'Our sales associates were on the telephone constantly throughout the day and we did a very substantial amount of business on the Internet. We expect the month of August to remain very busy as fans finalize their plans for the upcoming season.'

Season tickets and four-game mini-plans also remain on sale with a number of good seat locations available. Currently, the ticket office is reporting it has sold nearly 45,000 season tickets for the upcoming season, which maintains a pace that is approximately 1,000 ahead of the total for this time last summer.

The Huskies open the season on the road in a rare Friday night ESPN appearance on August 31 at Syracuse before returning home for its home opener the following Saturday against Boise State. That game will be televised regionally by FSN Northwest.

The Buckeyes play at Husky Stadium on Sept. 15 in a 12:30 p.m. contest that will also be televised nationally by ESPN. Other Washington home games include a Sept. 29 game against USC (12:30 p.m., ABC/ESPN), Oct. 20 against Oregon, Oct. 27 against Arizona (12 Noon, FSN Northwest), Nov. 17 against California and Nov. 24 in the 100th Apple Cup against Washington State.

Washington's players report to campus Friday and will undergo two days of orientation and other administrative details before conducting their first practice of the preseason on Sunday afternoon.

The team's annual Picture Day (free admission) will take place on Saturday, Aug. 11 at 1:30 p.m., while the preseason Kickoff Luncheon will be held on Monday, Aug. 27 at 11 a.m. in Dempsey Indoor. For tickets and information, visit
