USC Announces 2007-08 Men's Basketball Schedule
July 31, 2007
The USC men's basketball team, coming off a school-record 25-win season, will play a schedule in 2007-08 which includes a potential 16 games against teams garnering preseason top 25 recognition, it was announced today (July 31) by USC head basketball coach Tim Floyd.
'We are continuing to try and lift the profile of the USC basketball program and this schedule should be a reflection of that,' said Floyd. 'We have non-conference home games with Big 12 powers Oklahoma and Kansas--the Jay Hawks being ranked as high as No. 2 in many preseason polls. It's an ambitious schedule, given the departures of Nick Young, Gabe Pruitt and Lodrick Stewart, with the schedule featuring games against preseason No. 1 Memphis, at an improving South Carolina team which we lost to last season at the Galen Center and a made-for-TV tournament in Anaheim which will feature two potential top 25 teams in Mississippi State and Southern Illinois.'
In addition, the Trojans will play the rugged Pac-10 Conference schedule which features as many as 12 games against teams receiving top 25 votes in the preseason. Among the Pac-10 team joining USC in various preseason top 25 polls are Arizona, Oregon, Stanford, UCLA, Washington and Washington State.
Among the marqee games at the spectacular Galen Center in its second season will be Oklahoma on Nov. 29, Kansas on Dec. 2, Arizona on Feb.2 and UCLA on Feb. 16. The Trojans will play the crosstown rival Bruins in Westwood on Jan. 19.
USC will participate in two tournaments during the regular season. On Dec. 4, the Trojans will take on preseason No. 1 Memphis at Madison Square Garden in the Jimmy V Classic. USC will also play in the new Anaheim Classic tournament at the Convention Center, with the first game taking place on Nov. 22 (Thanksgiving) vs. San Diego and the second game on Nov. 23 being against either South Alabama or Miami (OH). The final game USC will play in the Anaheim Classic is on Nov. 25 against either Southern Illinios, Mississippi State, UC Irvine or Chattanooga.
The Pac-10 Tournament will be held from March 12-15 at the Staples Center in Los Angeles.
USC returns two starters from a team that advanced to the 2007 NCAA Sweet 16 and set a school record with 25 victories (25-12). The Trojans expect to be fortified by a No. 3 ranked recruiting class led by 2007 EA Sports High School Basketball Player of the Year O.J. Mayo.
The Trojans will also play two exhibition games at the Galen Center, the Cardinal & Gold game (intra-squad) on Oct. 28 and Fresno Pacific on Dec. 8. For ticket information, contact the USC Ticket Office at 213-740-GOSC (4672).
