New Stadium Way Traffic Restrictions Planned for All Home Football Games
Aug. 2, 2007
PULLMAN, Wash. - In an effort to improve pedestrian safety and security, Washington State University officials will establish a temporary 'restricted traffic zone' on Stadium Way between Grimes Way and Orchard Dr./Colorado St. on all home football game days this fall.
From two hours before kickoff time until two hours after the game's conclusion, access to the restricted portion of Stadium Way will be limited to emergency vehicles, transit vehicles, stadium-support vehicles and vehicles displaying disability permits intending to drop off persons with disabilities.
'Athletics, along with WSU Police, WSU Parking and Transportation Services, and the City of Pullman have collaborated to develop a game day traffic revision plan which will enhance pedestrian safety and direct the flow of exit traffic from campus more expeditiously,' said John David Wicker, associate athletic director for event and facility operations. 'We understand this will create some changes in how fans get to and from the game, but we feel the change is necessary, especially as we grow into the newly renovated Martin Stadium.'
The restrictions are intended to improve pedestrian safety and access, consolidate exit traffic flow from campus side streets and parking areas, encourage the use of public transit, and improve perimeter control and security at Martin Stadium.
Football fans are encouraged to arrive early, plan ahead for parking and traffic challenges and make use of free public transit shuttles on game days.
Additional information regarding the game day traffic revision and game day travel routes is available at www.wsu.edu/parking/gameday.
Information and maps also will be available on game days at the WSU Visitor Center, located at the entrance to Pullman at 225 N. Grand Avenue. Questions and comments about the traffic revision can be directed to firstname.lastname@example.org.
A comprehensive list of home football weekend events, activities, and dining options will be made available at www.football-weekends.wsu.
