Tara Kirk Captured A Bronze Medal In The 100 Breaststroke At 2007 Summer Senior Nationals

The fourth day of competition at the 2007 ConocoPhillips USA Swimming National Championships came to a close on Friday with another medal for a Stanford affiliate. Tara Kirk captured the bronze in an exciting 100 breaststroke final, while several other swimmers had strong showings in event finals.
In the 100 meter breaststroke, Tara Kirk, the leader at the 50-meter mark behind a split of 31.51, picked up the bronze medal in 1:07.35. Kirk, who won silver at the World Champs, was slightly more than a second off her personal-best mark of 1:06.34. Teammate Caroline Bruce finished in 13th place overall, fifth in the B-Final, with a time of 1:10.34. Rebecca Soni (Trojan Swim Club) claimed the gold as she touched the wall in 1:07.06.
Julia Smit represented Stanford in the 100 meter backstroke finals as she posted a 14th place overall finish, sixth in the B-Final, with a time of 1:03.18. Hayley McGregory (Longhorn Aquatic) earned the victory as she finished in a time of 1:00.93.
'I'm really proud of the way our team is racing, we are doing well here at nationals,' said head coach Lea Maurer. 'We are excited about heading into next season.'
