First Day of Practice in the Books for Golden Bears

Aug. 6, 2007

Berkeley - The California football conducted its first official fall practice on Monday afternoon at Memorial Stadium, practicing for 18 periods in helmets. The Golden Bears focused primarily on individual drills like 7-on-7 sessions and one-on-one exercises.

'It's nice to see the guys all together again,' said head coach Jeff Tedford. 'They worked hard and had a lot of energy. We have a lot of work to do, but they're anxious to get it done. I'm excited to get back out here to get into the flow of practice and get the young guys acclimated to what goes on. You get a brief look at the young guys, but when you don't have pads on, you can't really tell anything. The main thing is to try teach tempo and to let our guys know what practice is all about.'

'It was just good to get everybody back out here,' said junior signal caller Nate Longshore. 'I feel real healthy. The off-season did a lot for me and did a lot for the team especially -- we're a lot closer as a unit.'

Defensively, the Bears conducted pass rush drills and various blocking and covering techniques.

'It was a pretty good day for me,' said redshirt freshman defensive back Darian Hagan. 'I was just trying to get back in the groove and pick up where I left off from spring ball.'

The next practice is scheduled for Tuesday afternoon in helmets. As a reminder, all California football practices are CLOSED to the public.
