Aug. 5, 2007
CHICAGO - Recording their first AVP Tour title in five years, former Bruins Annett Buckner Davis and Jenny Johnson Jordan won the Chicago Open on Sunday with a 21-16, 24-22 victory over the duo of Angie Akers and Brooke Hanson.
The #1 seed for the tournament, Davis and Johnson Jordan last won in 2002 in the same familiar spot of Chicago.
Davis and Johnson Jordan have been beach volleyball partners for the last decade. Along with their success on the Tour, the duo placed fifth in the 2000 Sydney Olympic Games and were third in an Olympic qualifier for the 2004 Athens Games. The tandem were UCLA teammates for three seasons (1992-94), leading the Bruins to a pair of Final Four appearances.
The Tour schedule continues this weekend when the AVP makes its second trip to Southern California in the last month. The Manhattan Beach Open will run from Aug. 9-12 at the Manhattan Beach Pier.
