Huskies Tabbed 17th In Preseason College Soccer News Poll

Aug. 6, 2007

SEATTLE - The Washington men's soccer team was tabbed 17th in a preseason poll by College Soccer News, the online publication announced. The Huskies return nine starters from last year's squad that posted a 13-7-1 record and advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament.

Among Washington's returning starters are 2006 Pac-10 Player of the Year Kevin Forrest (Edmonds, Wash.) and 2006 first-team All-Pac-10 selection Ely Allen (Kent, Wash.). The senior forwards will look to lead a potent UW scoring offense that ranked 18th in the nation last year. Forrest and Allen were also NSCAA All-Region performers last season, and will be joined by fellow all-region returner and sophomore midfielder George John (Shoreline, Wash.). Sophomore goalkeeper Rylan Hawkins (Shoreline, Wash.) will look to lead the Husky defense, earning All-Pac-10 honorable mention honors in his rookie campaign.

The Huskies, which open the season Aug. 31, versus New Hampshire at the Nike Portland Invitational, will face a challenging slate in 2007 highlighted by matches with six Top-30 opponents: No. 1 UCLA, No. 7 SMU, No. 10 New Mexico, No. 13 California, No. 21 Creighton and No. 25 San Diego State.

Husky players report to preseason training camp Monday, Aug. 13.
