Bay Area Women's Volleyball Media Day Set for August 22

Stanford, Calif. - The 2007 Bay Area Women's Volleyball Media Day will be held Wednesday, August 22, at 11 a.m. at Scott's Seafood Restaurant (855 El Camino Real in Town and Country Village) in Palo Alto, Calif. The event will feature head coaches and selected student-athletes from the six Bay Area schools - including 2006 NCAA Runner-Up Stanford, NCAA Tournament participants California and Santa Clara, plus Saint Mary's, San Francisco and San Jose State.

Stanford and Cal both ended the 2006 season ranked in the AVCA Top-25 Poll. The Cardinal fell to Nebraska in last year's NCAA title match, while the Golden Bears were eliminated by Stanford in the Regional Semifinals in Austin, Texas. Santa Clara qualifed for its ninth consecutive NCAA Tournament in 2006 but fell to Missouri in the First Round. In the Pac-10 Preseason Coaches Poll, Stanford is picked to win the league, while Cal is selected to finish fifth. San Jose State was picked to finish third in the WAC. The WCC Preseason Poll has yet to be released.

Featured at the 2007 media day will be All-American setter Bryn Kehoe from Stanford as well as senior captain Franci Girard. Representing California will be All-American outside hitter Angie Pressey and senior middle blocker Ellen Orchard. Santa Clara's Caroline Walters and Crystal Matich will also be in attendance, as will Brynn Maurer and All-WCC selection Kristin Hasselberg from San Francisco. The group will be rounded out with senior Jennifer Senftleben and All-WAC selection Colleen Burke and from San Jose State along with selected players from Saint Mary's.

The 2007 Bay Area Volleyball Media Day is scheduled to run from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and will include a short presentation by each head coach, followed by lunch and informal interviews with the coaches and athletes.
