UCLA Women's Soccer Places Three on MAC Hermann Trophy Watch List
Aug. 10, 2007
LOS ANGELES - UCLA women's soccer players Lauren Cheney, Danesha Adams and Christina DiMartino were recently named to the 2007 Missouri Athletic Club's Hermann Trophy Watch List, an early indicator for potential player of the year candidates. The list was compiled by a committee of Division I coaches.
Cheney, a sophomore forward from Indianapolis, Ind., led the Pac-10 in scoring a year ago with 39 points (19g, 1a). She was named a first-team NSCAA/adidas All-American, earning Pac-10 Freshman of the Year honors. She also led the Bruins with nine game-winning goals.
Adams, a senior midfielder from Shaker Heights, Ohio, was also named to the Watch List in 2006. She ranked second on the team in scoring last season with 28 points (12g, 4a), taking home third-team NSCAA/adidas All-America honors.
DiMartino, a junior midfielder from Massapequa, N.Y., led the Bruins in assists last season with seven. She was the team's third leading scorer with 17 points (5g, 7a). She is joined on the Watch List by her sister, Gina, who plays soccer at Boston College.
In November, the list will be narrowed to 15 semifinalists. Three finalists will be named in early December in conjunction with the NCAA Division I College Cup and will be invited to the Missouri Athletic Club on Friday, January 11, 2008. The winner of the 2007 award will be announced during a nationally-televised news conference that evening.
