Maric Takes Eighth in Discus at World University Games

BANGKOK, Thailand - California thrower Martin Maric, a transfer from Georgia, represented Croatia in the discus and javelin events at the World University Games in Bangkok, Thailand from Aug 9-11. Maric finished eighth in the discus.

In the discus final, Maric took eighth with his mark of 56.32. Austria's Gerhard Mayer won the event with a score of 61.55. In the qualifying round, Maric posted a 56.01, placing fifth in his group.

Maric didn't advance to the final in the javelin. In the qualifying round, he notched a 65.15, good enough for ninth in his group.

Maric will have sophomore eligibility during the 2008 indoor season and will be a junior during the 2008 outdoor season at Cal.
