Cal Ranked No. 18 in NSCAA Preseason Poll

BERKELEY, Calif. - Fresh off a second-round NCAA Tournament showing last season, the California women's soccer team is ranked 18th in the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA)/adidas Preseason Top 25 Poll.
Cal posted a 12-5-5 record in 2006 and earned its third consecutive bid to the NCAA Tournament and eighth in the last nine years. The Bears ended the season ranked No. 19 in the final NSCAA poll on the strength of wins over No. 4 Santa Clara and No. 11 Stanford.
Defending NCAA champion North Carolina earned the top spot in this year's NSCAA Preseason Poll, followed by Notre Dame, NCAA runner-up UCLA, Portland and Texas A&M. In addition to Cal and UCLA, Stanford (T9th) and USC (25th) are also ranked from the Pac-10.
Cal faces four teams ranked in the preseason by the NSCAA - UCLA, Santa Clara (eighth), Stanford and USC.
The Bears open the season with an exhibition at UC Davis Aug. 24 at 11 a.m. The regular-season kicks off with the 13th-annual Cal Invitational Aug. 31 and Sept. 2. Cal faces Columbia on the first day of the tournament at 4:30 p.m. at Edwards Stadium. Saint Mary's battles Colorado College prior to the Bears' game at 2 p.m.
